Today the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia, Shombi Sharp, alongside with WHO Representative in Armenia, Egor Zaitsev, Chargé d'Affaires of the United Kingdom in Armenia, Helen Fazey met with the members of the UK Emergency Medical Team (EMT), as well as with the MoH Head of the Medical Assistance Policy Department, Qnar Ghonyan, Deputy Director of the National Center of Infectious Diseases, Naira Stepanyan and Deputy Director at “Surb Grigor Lusavorich” Medical Center, Anna Martirosyan.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss in the midway of the mission the activities of the EMT in Armenia, the support provided to the hospitals, registered successes, as well as the existing challenges. The UK EMT arrived in Armenia on 23 November in response to the request of WHO. The mission that will last 5 weeks, aims to support in managing the acute and most acute cases of coronavirus.
During the first two weeks of the mission, the team worked at “Surb Grigor Lusavorich” Medical Center and the National Center of Infectious Diseases, conducting trainings and exchanging experiences with the staff of medical centers.
During the meeting, Mr. Sharp greeted the mission team and his counterparts, and expressed his deep gratitude to all for their efforts and effective cooperation amidst pandemic. He also expressed hope that such cooperation will be continuous.
In their turn, the members of the mission thanked their Armenian counterparts for their warm welcome and effective collaboration, emphasizing the commitment and professionalism of the Armenian healthcare workers.
During the meeting the EMT members were also greeted by the WHO Representative in Armenia, Egor Zaitsev and Chargé d'Affaires of the United Kingdom in Armenia, Helen Fazey.
