On May 30 a Round Table Discussion organized by UNIDO and IFToMM (International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science) was held at the UN House in Yerevan. It featured a group of officials, including representatives of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, different Ministries and Governmental Agencies, Universities, business associations, private companies. Discussion was grouped around three main sections: (a) Automotive engineering in Armenia: current situation and development perspectives, (b) Education, Science and Training, (c) International cooperation and Integration.
Participants agreed that this sector needs fundamental assessment and review in terms of the existing capacities and development potential. Different examples of cooperation and outsourcing were presented and idea in the establishment of the national Engineering Research center was proposed.
UNIDO’s technical expertise and projects in automotive sector were presented to the audience. All participants agreed that a comprehensive assessment which has been undertaken with the assistance of UNIDO in different countries, such, as India, Belarus, Colombia, would be absolutely vital and necessary for the rehabilitation of this industry in Armenia.
