Around 250 schoolchildren got acquainted with the UN activities and programmes

Within the framework of the events dedicated to the UN Day and 25 years of UN’s presence in Armenia, the UN Department of Public Information Yerevan Office (UNO/DPI Yerevan) hosted around 250 schoolchildren and their teachers within the period of October 25-26. The 6-12 grade students represented Karbi Secondary school after V. Tekeyan, Vanadzor Secondary School No 8, Yerevan High School No 109, Yerevan No 128 School after Leo Tolstoy, Geghanist Secondary School (Ararat Region), the Economic College of Gyumri, “Byurakn” Educational Complex, and Eurnekian General Education Institution, and "Ayg" Educational Development Center.

During the events, Mrs. Armineh Haladjian, UNO/DPI Yerevan Officer-in-Charge, provided the attendees with general information on the UN, its mission, and on Sustainable Development Goals. The students discussed the issues they consider relevent for their communities, and came up with some options of solutions. Besides, they took part in educational games.

“I learned who the current UN Secretary General was. Also, now I know the date Armenia joined the UN. And I am now aware of the Sustainable Development Goals and recognize how those can contribute to the development of Armenia,” 11-years-old Hakob Perikhanyan told after the visit.

The teachers thanked the UN Armenia for the awareness-raising events and expressed their interest for further cooperation. The Head of Ashtarak based "Ayg" Educational Development Center Ms. Narine Muradyan indicated, that visits to the UN House were an additional opportunity for the students to get acquainted with various global issues and to try to come up with their own solutions. She noted, that the solutions suggested by the students on the problems existent in their communities will be presented to the local autorities to jointly tackle those.
